Diocese of La Crosse ordains three new priests

6-27-2012-1-57-28-PM-22704101On June 23 the diocese celebrated the ordination of three new priests: Father David Bruener, Father Jeffrey Hennes and Father Daniel Oudenhoven. On their behalf and on behalf of all of us priests in the Diocese of La Crosse, I wish to express gratitude to you, Brother Knights, for your steadfast and prayerful support of priests. Together may we continue the work of building up the Body of Christ and leading souls to heaven.

In July we again celebrate the blessings God has bestowed upon our land and the values which make us a great nation. Even as we enjoy those Fourth-of-July picnics, parades and fireworks, we know there are fellow citizens putting their lives on the line for others around the world and the inalienable right to life remains threatened here at home. I commend you, Brother Knights, for your courageous defense of life at all stages, and for your support of those serving in the armed forces who defend our liberties and are working to restore and preserve peace in our world.

Who would have imagined that another fundamental right – the constitutional right to religious liberty – would be subject to government interference like it is today? The United States bishops’ observance of a “Fortnight for Freedom” will conclude on July 4, Independence Day. Bishop Callahan will celebrate a concluding Mass at the Cathedral at 9:00 on the morning of July 4. Please try to attend, if you can, to demonstrate solidarity as a church with our bishops and all people of faith. The Fourth Degree Honor Guard would also be welcome. Certainly all of us should be participating in prayer and other observances in support of the principles on which we stand both as a nation and as a church.

May God bless you and your families.
Fr. Michael Gorman, Chaplain
